Advertising

Throughout the years there has been more and more advertising happening. I remember when I was younger the time commercials ran was half of what it is now. The shows are shorter now because of commercials. In some cases the actual show is shorter than all the commercials. I find that very annoying. We are surrounded by advertisements. When you drive down the streets and highways you see ads. All of these ads have pictures and sangs so it catches the attention. While some work where others don't. All of these ads are created because there are so many products competing to be the best. When I was younger there were not all these types of brands. Today when you walk in the grocery store you see how many shampoos, types of cheese and many more products. All of these companies believe they have a better product all they have to do is make it know and they are in the game. What kind of advertisement do you think catches the most people’s attention?

It is true that the way companies advertize has become increasingly difficult and competitive. However, part of the blame for the aggressive advertizing of some companies has to be placed on the consumer. It has been and is becoming almost impossible to reach the average consumer. Today people have DVR and can fast forward through all the commercials. I think that the most effective way for a company to advertize is to keep it short and sweet; No one wants to sit through a long boring commercial. It’s better if the commercial, much like the show you're trying to watch, is entertaining, which usually means humorous. That is the reason most people don't mind watching Super Bowl commercials, because they are funny and entertaining. I also think that some commercials are played on the wrong channels. A commercial for arthritis medication is completely wasted on MTV and Nickelodeon. It is almost as if companies are just trying to get their name out there any way they can.
